Smart Quotes 1.20b
******************
NB: !Quotes is the program you want. !SQ Source is just the source code
and won't do anything particularly useful.
This is a patched version of Smart Quotes 1.20, i.e. one with a few
bugs fixed. The major problem with SQ1.20 was that !SQ Setup (i.e. the
program run when you click the Other... button in the Choices window)
crashed, or hung the machine. There are two separate bugs here and I think
I have one of them solved.
* The first one (not managing to save the files) has been solved - a file
was left open :(. Those who have been using Quotes for a while may
remember that this is a nasty habit of mine ;).
* The second one is quite nasty: SQ Setup will hang the machine sometimes.
An interim solution is to use an uncompressed version of SQ Setup, which
doesn't crash the machine quite as nastily. Alternatively, you could
edit the Setup file in SQáChoices manually - it's quite straightforward.
Also, the part of the MoreInfo file dealing with known problems has been
moved into the ReadMe file. The major one is as follows: diphthongs where the
second character is typed with the shift key held down, won't work with the
default key-mappings in Zap. Change the mapping for Shift-Backspace to DELETE
and it should work.
Other than this, there are a few very minor corrections.
Other comments
**************
A quick note on documentation (which files you should read):
* Definitely read !Help.
* You should also read the "important" bits of ReadMe (they're marked as
such in the contents section at the beginning).
* You may also want to read the less important bits of ReadMe.
* You do not, by any means, have to read the MoreInfo file in !SQ Source.
Also, remember that full interactive help is available.
All feedback is welcome, as are comments for future expansion of Quotes.
In particular, I have plans for more intelligent apostrophe substitution.
I think that if you have just typed a punctuation mark or a space, the next
apostrophe (') should be an open single quote, and if it's an
alphanumeric, the delete or move keys, or any other characters it should be
a closed single quote (the default). Does anyone have any problems with that?
Is there anything I have missed out?
Also, please note that my old email address, 9262861k@arts.gla.ac.uk, is
no longer valid. Please use 926286ki@udcf.gla.ac.uk, or wombat@altern.com
during the holidays. If you've mailed me and haven't had a reply, please
mail me again @udcf.
This file is getting too long so I'll stop now. Enjoy the program ;).
